Podcast Episode5: From the Shadows of Displacement to the Light of Leadership

In this episode of Resilient Voices of Refugees, moderated by Solange Ingabire, we journey into the remarkable life of Daniel Ameny, also known as Khalid, a Congolese refugee who has turned the pain of displacement into a wellspring of hope and transformation. Since arriving in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement in Uganda in 2001, Daniel has carried within him an unshakable belief that refugees are not defined by what they have lost, but by the endless possibilities of what they can create.

In 2007, with little more than vision and determination, he co-founded the Planning for Tomorrow Youth Organisation (P4T), a movement dedicated to lifting refugee communities through education, healthcare, livelihoods, and mental health support. His dream was simple yet profound: to show that within every refugee lies strength, skill, and ingenuity capable of building a brighter tomorrow.

Today, Daniel serves as the Executive Director of P4T, guiding initiatives that empower young people, protect children, and open the doors of education to those who have been left behind. His journey of leadership also gave birth to the Zamzam Orphan Centre, a place of safety and love for children who might otherwise walk alone.

Daniel’s life is a living testament that even in the harshest conditions, resilience can bloom into leadership, and sorrow can be transformed into service. His voice calls us to see refugees not as silent recipients of aid, but as visionaries, builders, and leaders whose stories light the path toward a more compassionate world.
